Early interventionists work with individual families to provided tailored support packages(47). They provide support to the child with the specific needs as well as to the family in order to prevent the escalation of family problems and to assist with environmental issues(47).
Some roles of early interventionists include setting up supported playgroups, educating parents about parenting skills and their child’s development and health and boosting family links with local support services(47). They may also provide practical support in the home and provide home management advice to parents(47). Early interventionists play an important role in ensuring that the child’s activities are developmentally appropriate and encourage socialization and interaction with other children(46). They can also provide resouce support to children in liscensed child care programs(46).
